Explanation UPS
The standard EN 50091-3 shows the main operating functions of the UPS. The basic function of a UPS is to provide a connected load interruption. This can be achieved with different circuit architectures, and corresponding modes of operation.
An overview of the system disturbances occurring and the appropriate UPS solutions according to the three classifications UPS VFD, VI and VFI are in the table below.
The UPS solution VFD can be used for all 10 grid disturbances in the grid faults 1 to 3, VI at No. 1 to 5 and VFI.

VFI (On-Line) UPS
The new classification of European standard EN 50091-3 (IEC 62040-3)
VFI V oltage and F requency I ndependent (On-Line)
Electricity supply ok

Power failure

Overload

VI (Line-Interaktive) UPS
The new classification of European standard EN 50091-3 (IEC 62040-3)
VI V oltage I ndependent (Line-Interactive)
Electricity supply ok

Power failure

VFD (Off-Line) UPS
The new classification of European standard EN 50091-3 (IEC 62040-3)
VFD V oltage and F requency D ependent (Off-Line)
